GCSE exams are almost here — but you’ve still got time to make it count. Whether you’ve been revising for months or just starting to get focused, these last-minute hacks will help you stay productive, boost your confidence, and avoid burnout.
At A-Tutors, we’ve helped thousands of students make huge progress in just a few weeks. If you’re revising for GCSE English, Maths or Science (or all three!), these tips will help you get the most out of every study session.
Use the 80/20 rule: focus most of your energy on the topics that will maximise your scores. That doesn’t mean skipping anything! It just means using your time wisely to reinforce what matters most for the exam.
Download your exam board’s specification and print it out. Highlight what you’ve revised and tick off topics as you go. It’s motivating, and it ensures you're not leaving anything important out.
Your brain is freshest in the morning. Use this time to tackle tricky topics like Maths problem-solving or Science recall. Save easier or creative subjects for the afternoon when energy dips.
Past papers are gold, but don’t just read them — actively practise under exam conditions. Set yourself a short question set and time it. Then mark it honestly. This helps sharpen both your timing and your technique.
Try 30-5-30 revision blocks: 30 minutes of focused work, followed by a 5-minute break, then repeat. You could also try 25-5-25 or 40-5-40 — whatever helps you stay sharp. Short bursts are way more effective than long, distracted sessions.
Some students are natural at STEM subjects, others excel in the arts or languages. Use your revision time to balance your weaker areas with what you already know well. Not sure what needs more work? Use your mock results and teacher feedback as a guide.
Top tip: put up a huge whiteboard or stick revision posters on your wall with formulas, key quotes or problem areas. Visual reminders help things stick.
Flashcards are still one of the most effective ways to learn. Use them for Science facts, English quotes, dates, formulas and key definitions. Digital apps like Quizlet or Anki space out your review sessions so you remember more.
Get into the habit of doing a paper or section under full timed conditions. No phones, no breaks, no looking up answers. The more realistic your practice, the more confident you’ll feel on exam day.
Can’t concentrate at home? Try your school library, a local study space or even a coffee shop if it helps you get in the zone. Not every environment works for every student — so find the place where you work best.
If you’re stuck, ask for help! Even one online session with a tutor can unlock a topic you’ve been dreading. A-Tutors offers last-minute support in GCSE English, Maths, and Science — with expert tutors ready to help you succeed.
You don’t need to be perfect — you just need to be productive. Use these final weeks wisely and you’ll walk into those exam halls feeling calm, confident and ready.
