SAT vs ACT 2025: Which Test Should You Take?

• If you prefer data analysis, work well with graphs and scientific scenarios, and are comfortable switching sections quickly, the ACT may suit you.
• If you prefer deeper reading, more time per question, and are stronger in Maths and English, the SAT could be a better fit.
• Some students take both the SAT and ACT once (usually early in Year 12 or Grade 11) to see which suits them better. Based on their scores, they then choose the test that they are better suited to as they prepare for more seriously and re-sit if needed.

• Earliest sitting: March of Year 12
• Latest sitting: November of Year 13 (December may be accepted by some universities)
• Start time: Usually between 8:00–9:00am (arrive early)

ACT

• Earliest sitting: February or April of Year 12
